Homeopathy is a form of medicine that uses ultra low doses of remedies that match the symptoms of the person on a mental, physical and emotional level. This gentle medicine uses remedies which are all diluted to such an extent that the original substance is no longer there – all that remains is simply the energy of that substance.
The main principle and theory to homeopathy is that “like cures like.” So on an acute level for example, if someone is suffering with hay fever, or a cold, that is making their eyes water with tears streaming down their face, then we might use a homeopathic remedy called Allium Cepa which is the Latin name for onion, and this is because these symptoms match exactly to the effects of cutting onions. Similarly, if someone is unable to sleep, with thoughts racing though their mind, we might think of the remedy Coffea (coffee) since this is the same effect that caffeine can have.
There are several thousand homeopathic remedies and in order to find the one that best matches a person’s chronic symptoms for a long term condition, it’s necessary to take a time line and have a consultation that really covers the emotional traits of a person as well as their physical symptoms to find a true match. We also try to look for an aetiology – or a trigger – what was happening in someone’s life just before the symptoms appeared.
Once this happens and we find the key that fits into the lock, then the idea is that the body is given the message to kick start the healing process. This is where the magic happens and the body can use its own innate healing capacity.
“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to
silence the mind.” (Caroline Myss)
The connection between physical and emotional symptoms is something that homeopathy truly takes into account. So we can take all the vitamins,
supplements, and nutrient dense foods to nourish our bodies, but if we don’t also nourish our hearts and minds, then we may still struggle to be the best we can be. If you’re interested in a homeopathy session with me, or would like to ask any questions, please feel free to be in touch.
